ACCOMMODATION

• All Ram Katha attendees are required to make their own stay arrangements.
• Below are some suggestions for hotels in Mombasa. We recommend booking your accommodation as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
• Half board / All-Inclusive is recommended as afternoon Prasad, after Katha, will be provided to all attendees opposite the Katha hall (evening Prasad will be provided on the first day).
• Note that the price differences between all-inclusive and half-board are very small in Mombasa.

TRAVEL

By Air:

• Moi International airport (MBA), Mombasa’s local airport, is located approximately 20-25 mins from Nyali (16km)
• There are many flight options from the UK and India, connecting via UAE as well as multiple options from the USA.
• From the UK: You can fly to MBA from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) or London Gatwick Airport (LGW). Stopovers can be optimised via the UAE or Nairobi.

VISA INFORMATION

• Travelers must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to visit Kenya for Tourism. Travelers can submit the eTA application online. Once the application is approved, travelers receive their eTA confirmation electronically.
• From the UK:
  • You must apply online for electronic travel authorisation in advance of travel.
  • The local authorities recommend applying at least 2 weeks before your departure.
  • Travellers who currently hold a visa can continue to travel using their visa until it expires.

WEATHER

• Kenya in August enjoys warm and mostly dry weather countrywide, with temperatures averaging between 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). Along the coast in places like Mombasa and Malindi, temperatures range from 24°C to 30°C (75°F to 86°F), with sunny days and little rain.
• The weather can vary from warm sunny days to cool nights as well as rain and light snow showers, therefore please pack appropriate clothing.

CURRENCY 

• Cash is accepted and preferred by most vendors, but lots of places, especially in the cities, accept credit cards. If you get a safaricom sim card, Mpesa is the most common and very popular way to pay for things with your phone.

• Haller Park - Haller Park is a nature park in Bamburi, Mombasa, on the Kenyan coast. It is the transformation of a quarry wasteland into an ecological area. 
• Fort Jesus Museum -  The fort, is located along the coastline near the Old Town, is a monumental piece of architecture that was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. 
• Nyali Beach - Wide sandy beach with a serene ambiance, ideal for swimming in the Indian Ocean. Enjoy local vendors, sunset boat rides, and snorkeling in the marine park.
